So yeah, I have a first generation Ipod Touch which is well out of warranty now and I really don't want to pay Apple to fix it since they are notorious for ridiculous repair prices.
So here's the situation, it's happened to other 1st Gen. Ipod touches too I hope someone here can related and help:
The Ipod is now only playing through one speaker or headphone. Don't say it's my headphones and whatnot, I've tested it on many sound systems, it's the Ipod.
I'm assuming it's a problem with the jack, but I could be wrong.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Do I have to open up the Ipod? If so, how do I open it and fix it?

You could try cleaning the jack out. Use a q-tip or something similar. You could try using just a little alcohol, but make sure not to get anything in the jack wet, so don't use water.

I've had this problem too, and to be honest, I've found that in my case it was the earphones. I've gone through around three sets of earphones because of this problem :\

Your jack is probably effed, just google iPod repair, I suggest ipod repair.com they fixed my broken jack just a few weeks ago.
